Contest Ideas
- Best Room
- Residents could compete for the best decorated room.
- Cleanest Room
- See who can keep their room cleanest for a week. Winners
get a broom and a dust pan signed by the rest of the section or
some other prize.
- Day-Nice
- Residents make a determined effort not to say an unkind
word to anyone for any reason. This could be made into a
fun contest. A "mark" would be given to a student for any
unkind remark and a prize could be given to the person,
participating, with the fewest "marks".
- Door Decorations - Most Creative
- Hold this contest during the holiday season with the theme
centered around the holiday. Invite faculty to judge the most
creative door. Award prized for the winners.
- Essay Writing
- Have an essay writing contest on an amusing subject to
instill some academic stimulation in having fun.
- Most Original T-Shirt
- Students could hand paint their own T-shirts. The
most original T-shirt would win a prize.
- Quiet
- This is a contest that could be held as an individual
or section event. The individual or section that remains
the quietest for a given length of time is the winner and
receives a prize.
- Room Decoration Contest
- This is usually centered around some theme.
Section residents are encouraged to decorate their rooms
according to the theme. Rooms are judged on originality,
time involved, and on how the theme is represented. Gifts
or cash prizes could be rewarded.
- Roommate Game
- Questions are asked of roommates to see how well they
know each other. Points are awarded for questions answered
correctly. Prizes are rewarded to the highest scoring "couple".
Excellent for the beginning of the year.
- Scavenger Hunt
- Make up a list of items to be found. Divide everyone
up into small groups, give them a copy of the list, set a
time limit, and they are off. Award a prize to the first
group to come back with everything on the list.
- Tree Decorating
- Interested residents are assigned to a tree somewhere
on campus. The teams then decorate their tree anyway that
they see fit (without hurting the tree). A winner is then
selected based on the most creative decoration. A great
idea for each section in a large residence hall.
