Making a Bibliography



A bibliography is a list of books and other materials on a particular subject. When you write a report, you must inform the person receiving the report what materials were used to gather the information.

A bibliography should be listed alphabetically and numbers. The second line of an entry should be indented. Here are four examples.

For a Book

Author. Last name only unless two persons have the same surname.
Title. Underlined.
Place of publication.
Publisher.
Copyright date.

Fichter. Disastrous Fires. New York: Franklin Watts, 1981.


For an encyclopedia

Author. If given.
Title of article. In quotation marks.
Title of encyclopedia. Underlined.
Latest copyright date.
Volume number.
Pages.

"Canada".Merit Encyclopedia,1981, Volume 4, 78-125.


For a magazine

Author. If given.
Title of article. In quotation marks.
Title of magazine. Underlined.
Volume and issue number.
Date of issue.
Pages.

Maxwell-Worthington. "The Rhymes and Times of Pecos Bill".
	Cobblestone. Volume 4, Number 4, July 1983, 13-14.

Vertical file material

Author, Title, Publisher, Date.
If no author, give title, publisher and date.
